The Fishing and Food Extravaganza

The sailfish (istiophorus platypterus) season begins from the end of March and peaks between July to November, right before the monsoon season. Schools of juvenile and large sailfish (and the occasional marlin) up to 50 kgs aggregate in relatively shallow waters off the east coast of peninsula Malaysia feeding on anchovies, small tropical fishes and even tunas. These speedsters call Kuala Rompin home during this time before continuing on their migratory journey to the southern seas of Australia and the neighbouring islands such as Irian Jaya, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and Noumea.

Other by-catch (depending on the period you fish) include the cobia, parrot fish, Spanish mackerel, mahi-mahi, red snapper, diamond trevally and the occasional giant trevally (if you're lucky!)
